History of Bumpering

The sport of Bumpering began quite by accident on a Saturday evening in October of 2011.  My cousin got married at an estate outside of Austin in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.  Another cousin’s little boy needed a diaper change while at the event.  His mom took care of biz on the tailgate of their Suburban & set the befouled diaper on the bumper to deposit in a trash can.  The diaper was forgotten until they spotted it late-night while pulling into the valet area of their downtown Austin hotel.  A dirty diaper had hitched a ride from the Hill Country to Austin proper!

This story was all the talk at our Cousin’s Brunch at our house on Sunday morning.  My husband Mark & the diapered baby’s dad — my cousin Brendan (Co-Commissioners of the High Art of Bumpering) began searching for tidier items to “Bumper” for Brendan’s family’s drive home to Amarillo.  What would be weighty and dense like a soiled diaper, but not disastrous if it fell off their car’s bumper?  Well, this was an Austin, Texas brunch, so what was the main menu item?  A breakfast taco, of course!  Brendan’s wife texted us updates of their little Bumpered breakfast tacos along the road trip & we were hooked!

Boom.  Bumpering was born.
